Alexandra Metter

Alexandra is a recent graduate of Loyola University Maryland, and has been living in and traveling around Northern Thailand since May 2012.  Alexandra is currently working on building her travel portfolio.

Alexandra was introduced to photography as she was growing up in Conneticut. The close proximity to New York City has lead her to become interested in the way in which the world manifests itself on a day-to-day basis on the streets, and the way in which the world presents itself. In the fall of 2008, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she was able to visually contrast the way in which the two cities manifest their character. This led her to develop a passion for travel and documentary photography.

Alexandra’s double major in visual arts and philosophy has led her to continually explore abstract concepts in her fine art endeavors.  In addition to travel photography,  she is currently working on a series of in-camera overlays where she exposes a roll of photographs taken on the street, and then rewinds the film and re-exposes it with images of pattern, typically nature photography. In doing so, she creates a juxtaposition between the street, representative of spontaneous moments, with the natural world limited to more cyclical and eternal patterns. Her inspiration for this resides in the Surrealist, Dadaist, and Bauhaus movements, as well as several Existentialist philosophers.
